As it says in chapter 10, religion was a huge part of peoples life. Even before the second great awakening religion played a huge role in people's lives. The second great awakening was a great religious awakening. It says in the chapter that is was the laying of a new religious 'landscape'. The new awakening was the series of many different revivals that brought people together and worked people into a strong religious life. So while religion was big even before the second great awakening it was an even bigger deal after the awakening. Preachers traveled around telling everyone about religion (or one certain religion) and began to get people involved. Meetings held during this time period brought people together and created a huge spiritual community. Passionate sermons were delivered and people were being awakened. This actually a huge time for the Christian denominations. These denominations were Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians. This time brought so much popularity that there were people coming from all over. This time in history was filled with people figuring out where they stood religiously. People were being accounted for and were choosing what they were devoting their time to. What made this time as big as it was the expanding the United States boarders. The revival meetings were being held everywhere. Although this was a great positive time it had its negatives. While many Christian were going to the revivals and loving it there actually was a group that was not on board with what was going on. This was obviously not the majority of the group. The second great awakening was a great time in history and helped many people religiously.
