Religious Changes

Religion was a huge part of this time period. The three main churches after the Second Great Awakening were Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians. All people had their different thoughts on religion and what kind of God there was. The Second Great Awakening was when everything started to change for religion. It became known because of a powerful intellectual and social currents. The revivals in the United States started by the swelling of church memberships, spawning new Christian denominations, and inspiring social reform. These all led to the first of many revivals such as the Cane Ridge Revival. This was the largest one and drew thousands of people to come help support. There were many different preachers out in the town giving sermons and some were inside the churches offering for people to come in and listen.  These churches became a big thing for people in this time period. These churches made people feel like they had a play to go in the world. It was where people felt safe and at home. Religion was what made everyone feel like they were connected in some way even if they went to different types of churches. People liked the new ideas of religion because they felt like they always had someone to talk to when they needed someone. There were a few problems with religion too, but it was not too bad to where riots happened. Religion helped people when they were in need and whenever something bad happened. They believed religion helped everything. Religion is what helped shape America and make it better.
