Slavery In America

The first type of slavery ever r corded in America started in 1619. It being 2016 now shows how long slavery has been around. They aided in the production of crops and and work. Slaves were known as property and not men of rights. So this means slavery was a very big industry. Big plantation owners usually owned up to nine hundred plus slaves. Smaller plantations had closer to just a handful of slaves. Slaves were sold and traded. Their worth was based off of size and what they could do. Slaves were judged for things like strength and health. These things were important when it had to do with the amount of work they could do and keeping them healthy and alive.

Another topic dealing with slaves is how harshly they were treated. Slaves were often whipped and beaten. Sometimes for unjust reasons. Slaves were forced to work all day everyday doing harsh tasks.  These tasks ranged from picking and planting fields. Slaves were also housed on the plantation property. They were kept in small shacks called slave houses. They were often not clean and very crowded. Slaves did there best to raise children and keep their families together.

Although all of the beating and working seems like a lot another aspect of slaves was reproducing. Slaves were often encouraged to have children and start families. Women were sold based on their ability to reproduce. Women were typically forced to have as many children as they could. Men were even more often forced on women. This came back to hurt white Americans because when slavery was deemed illegal and slaves were released white Americans saw released slaves as predators.

Slavery is in today's time a thing of the past. Slaves were treated unfairly and not as equal men.
