Slavery

Slavery has always been a shady subject in school. Teachers taught it the same so as not to offend people, but that doesn't help us realize how awful our country was. I was told that African Americans were held captive by White men. That they were seen as nothing more than a piece of property. Very recently, however, I realized this is somewhat true it isn't a reality. White men did in fact enslave African Americans. Slaves were treated HORRIBLY. They were required to work on the boats mercifully sometime even until death. Whites did put slaves up for auctions Slaves were sold for up to thousands of dollars. Young women were often kept by slave owners. Owners did this in order to increase if not double their profit. White men sound terrible right? Yes, some white men were terrible, but only about two percent of Whites actually owned slaves. There were even some whites who were forced into slavery. This all makes our history sound like it was all done in vain. But the harsh reality is was done to better the economy in The States. And that's what the history teachers failed to tell you. They failed to explain the deeper meaning behind slavery. You cannot just merely scratch the surface on this topic. Without going in depth you'll never be able to realize what was really being done in our country. That's the reality.
