Religion

   The nineteenth century's Second Great Awakening equaled succession of religious revivals. With these revivals came moral order and a new sense of spiritual community. The membership in churches increased and Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian preachers gave sermons telling the crowd about salvation.Religion was a huge part of people's lives at this time and they did everything they thought was correct religion wise.  Radical revivalist preachers such as, Charles Grandison Finney appealed to worshippers’ hearts and emotions. The Spiritual egalitarianism along with Methodists created a lack of formal training so more people became preachers. Moralist were concerned about the number of people who did not attend church and those who did not read scripture. Although there was conflict, religion brought people together. It helped America have standards and rules to follow. So, religion was huge and kept the country in order; more people went to church and so more people had morals.
