the continental congress adopted the first constitution known as the articles of confederation on November, 15 1777. although ratifications of the article by the 13 states did not occur until March, 1 1781. instead of the articles giving all the power to the federal government the articles created a loose constitution leaving a lot of the power to the state governments. This gave the states more say in their own rules rather than giving a select set of rules for all the states to follow. It also gave tension between the south and the north due to their separate views on the rules of the states and federal government. even though The articles of confederation was the first constitution and had a huge impact on society. every thing has to have a better version of its self.

During the years following the creation of the articles of confederation the US was beginning to notice their strong need for a stronger central government. their were many reasons that the articles needed to be replaced. one being that under the articles there was no separation of powers causing a weak all around government. another being the central government was extremely weak due to the resting of powers with in the states. as well as congress did not have the power to tax under the articles making it impossible to get their finances in order. all in all the articles of confederation needed to be replaced and were by The Constitution and was in 1789.
