Articles and the Constitution

The Articles of Confederation was created in order to form a system of government and law to the United States of America. It had good intentions, but John Dickinson,  the man who wrote the Articles of Confederation, over compensated. He and those who influenced the Articles of Confederation did not want a strong government, but they made the government too weak. Although, it was a very noble and idealistic approach to creating a nation, and many people admire this belief. The states held all of the power and nearly none of the power was held by the nation. The main three powers they did have were pretty much useless. For example, they had the power to start wars, but they did not have the power to raise armies. The Constitution was created so the nation’s government would have more power, or rather, any power at all. After all, it was supposed to be the United States, not the divided states. The Constitution enacted a system in which there would be branches of government, called checks and balances. This was done in order to give the government plenty of power without a chance of the government abusing it. This was needed for us to do anything as a united nation. We most likely would not have been able to fight any wars without the writing and instating of the Constitution. We, as a nation, would not have been able to raise an army. This is why the United States of America needed the Constitution.
