When you hear about the Articles of Confederation, you only hear about the negative parts, but there are positive parts as well. The articles allowed us to become our own free country after winning the Revolution. America started the Revolution for freedom from Great Britain, so it was important for the articles to give some freedom to the people. It unified trade and currency. It allowed the government to declare war and make peace, to coin and borrow money, to interact with foreign countries and sign treaties, and the ability to operate post offices. These are positive things that the Articles of Confederation could do. The negatives always overpower the positives, so it seems like there were no good things about the articles, but there were positive strengths that the Articles possessed.
Part 2:
The Articles of Confederation was a weak government with little power. The Constitution gave more power to the government. It balanced this power with the checks and balances system that divides power between three branches of government. With this system, no branch becomes too powerful. To guarantee accurate representation of the people, the Constitutional Convention settled on a bicameral legislature containing the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Constitution's amendments improve our government even more. The amendments give more rights to the people. The Constitution also established a national court system, and empowered Congress to impose taxes to make it easier for the national government to take care of the country's needs. While the Constitution serves as a great foundation for our country it still has its weaknesses, but it will always be better than the Articles of Confederation
